Introduction
The tilt-up method of construction had its beginnings in the early part of 20th century. However, its adoption
on a large scale began with the advent of the mobile crane in the 1940's.
Today, tilt-up is used mainly in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and some parts of South
East Asia as a fast, cost-effective method of construction.
The TILTBILT® System of tilt-up construction is the result of thorough research into the world-wide tilt-up
market. It uses the most advanced components, combining rugged construction with simplicity of operation. It also
utilises the latest research in design, engineering and finishes. |
Simplicity
The 'simplicity' of the TILTBILT® System, whilst being its major strength, can become a problem if it is
not clearly recognised for what it is. |
|
There is a great temptation, for designers and builders alike, to 'adapt'
the System to suit their own particular ideas and philosophies. This can be disastrous.
The simple, repetitive procedure that is TILTBILT® is undergirded by a great deal of project planning
and technical 'know-how'.
Engineering, panel design, hardware, chemicals and craneage layouts have all been refined over a number of years,
eliminating previously encountered problems and reducing risk and failure factors to a minimum.
But, if engineering instructions are altered or ignored; if craneage layouts are treated lightly;
if the wrong chemicals are used (or chemicals incorrectly used); if concrete specifications are altered (wrong
size aggregate, wrong type of sand, etc.); in short, if the System is tampered with before or during the project,
costly problems can be encountered.
However, because the System has been carefully and constantly refined and because, if properly
adhered to, it IS a simple system, there is no reason why designers and builders should not reap the many, considerable
advantages to be gained from this modern construction system.
The TILTBILT® System is inherently flexible and virtually any type of building may be designed in TILTBILT®.
So... designers should not feel restricted or intimidated by what has been said so far. There is a design and contruction
manual to ensure that once the decision has been made to use TILTBILT®, the correct design,
engineering, planning and construction procedures are adhered to.
Once the design and engineering has been completed, no alteration should be contemplated. Changes made during construction
will prove very costly.
