It
has been quite a while since ABS last produced its Tiltbilt Newsletter but from
now on every 2-3 months you will find it here on our web-site, www.tiltbilt.com.au.
As
the industry is aware, ABS has been engaged in lengthy litigation with Ramset
Fasteners (Australia) Pty Ltd. The Full
Federal Court found on 15th July 1999 that Ramset had infringed ABS
patent.
As
their honours stated in the Judgement, “This matter has followed a lengthy and
winding course”. At page 36 their
honours stated, “having regard to all these considerations, the modifications
to the Ramset shackle and ring clutch which had been made up to that time did
not avoid infringement”. At page 41
their honours state “ In the present case, the inference should be drawn that
Ramset’s misleading conduct did cause damage to Advanced”.
Now
ABS will continue to be a supplier of components and technology to the Tilt-Up
and precast market.
ABS
is now introducing:-
1) Superlift Insert III with clutch, capacity –
10t.
2) Bi-Pod braces which can support 18.5 metre high panels
with W.L.L.31.8 kN
3) Burke Slot Insert available in 50, 75, 100mm depths.
Can be wet set.
This insert has been designed to be the most advanced adjustable
insert on the
market with a high
pull out capacity up to 89 kN.
4) Choice of two bond breakers.
4.1 Super Bond Breaker Clean Lift 90.
Coverage, 1st coat 6m2 per litre,
2nd coat 8m2 per
litre.
4.2 Super Tilt Water Based – environmentally
friendly, and presents a surface ready
to receive paint or
other treatments.
Coverage 12 –17 m2
per litre per coat.
Future of
Tilt-Up?
Is tilt-up
a building technique with growth potential.
The answer is
definitely Yes!!, Yes!!
Take your
thinking back to 1981/82 when ABS vigorously promoted
tilt-up in the Australian market. Now look around
and see how many buildings and the varying building uses
that are now completed in tilt-up. There has also
been a growth in off site precast.
Architects, engineers, builders and developers
are saying “You
did that with Tilt-Up”!!!
No longer is
Tilt-Up just for industrial warehousing. You have
seen:
 |
hospitals |
 |
motels |
 |

 |
schools |
 |
prisons |
 |
supermarkets |
 |

so the list goes
on.
ABS made the
comment in 1981/82 “Tilt-Up design and
construction is only restrained by the designer’s
imagination”.
In February 2001
a tilt-up building with 18.5 metre high panels were lifted
at Bomaderry (near Nowra) using the Superlift III inserts
and clutches and braced using the bi pod braces.
A great
achievement?
My word!
The owner was ecstatic. The panel contractor (Terry
O’Carroll) was over the moon! The designer
engineer John Burke from Burke Engineering at Maitland was
very happy. Everything went without a hitch.
