Kingsford Smith Airport Extended Again
Mr Bob Forster from Teid Contractors won a contract for 70,000 square metres
of concrete pavement for the aircraft runway at Mascot.

The Federal Aircraft Corporation knows of the reputation of the Allen Razorback Screeding Machine and so does Bob.
This is his fourth time at the airport laying concrete runways with this screed. |

Kingsford Smith Airport, Sydney - Allen's Razorback Screed
helps lay a new runway
|
On the first occasion he used an Allen's Razorback Screed and has used it
on each and every occasion, so when he needed it for the 70,000 square metre contract he rang ABS and said "I
want 6.8 metres of screed. When can I have it?".
Malcolm Davis said "Three days."
Bob said "On the third day the machine was delivered to site ... I already have two machines which ABS have
reconditioned for me. The concrete design mix for the runway is 30 to 50 mpa with a 40mm aggregate stone. The depth
is 400 mm and the tolerance we are required to meet is +/- 5mm in 3 metres ... We met all the specifications and
what is great is the reliability of the machines and the service ABS provides to us. They know how to keep their
customers happy. This is a great way to lay concrete, it saves the backs of men and yet it saves time and satisfies
your customer."
Concrete has been around since the days of the Appian Way in Rome but it is with modern additives and better machines
allows you to obtain a superior finish. Much of the labour intensive nature associated with the placing of concrete
is now disappearing. Concrete workers today really appreciate the benefit they receive from their involvement in
working the machines which assist to provide a better and superior concrete finish.
